Karaoke in Hanoi splits into Korean-run and local venues. Neither is better. They suit different people — some want the price settled in advance, others care more about how relaxed the room feels.
| Korean-run | Local | |
|---|---|---|
| Price | Fixed and published | You pay for what you use |
| Korean | Hostesses manage basic Korean | Manager interprets; hostesses usually not |
| Atmosphere | Calmer, more conservative | Looser and more relaxed |
| Line-up | Varies a lot by venue | Generally a step up |
Korean-run — the bill is settled before you sit
What works The price is fixed. The total is worked out before you sit down, and the bill at the end matches. There is nothing to haggle over — everyone pays the same. The hostesses handle basic Korean, so the night is conversation rather than just singing. Most guests are Korean, so the room feels familiar on a first visit. What to know The atmosphere is more conservative. Physical contact is not especially free here. It also asks something of you — it is more a room you help set the mood in than one you simply relax into.
Local — a looser room
What works The line-up is generally a step up, with more to choose from. The mood is more open — less reserved, and physical contact is freer than at Korean-run venues. Overall it is a looser, easier room. Less work on your part, more just enjoying the night. What to know Prices are not fixed. You pay for what you use, down to the wet wipes, so you do not know the exact total before you sit down. Few hostesses speak Korean. Some venues do have a Korean-speaking manager, and at those places you are looked after without trouble — but it varies by venue. It also tends to cost more than a Korean-run venue.
How the money differs
Korean-run venues quote one number. Local venues vary, so they are shown as a range.
| Item | Korean-run | Local |
|---|---|---|
| Drinks | 1,000,000 VND each (2h unlimited) | 1,500,000 – 3,000,000 VND |
| Tip (TC) | 500,000 VND each | 700,000 – 1,000,000 VND |
| How it is billed | Fixed — total known in advance | Itemised — down to the wet wipes |
Going outside the venue
Some guests spend more time together outside the venue. Both sides have a going rate, but the numbers differ. At local venues the house does not get involved, so it comes down to what you agree between yourselves — and it often comes down.
| Option | Korean-run | Local |
|---|---|---|
| Short | 3,000,000 VND | 4,000,000 VND (negotiable) |
| Long | 5,000,000 VND | 8,000,000 VND (negotiable) |
Which one suits you
A simple way to decide: Korean-run — if you want to know the total in advance and prefer being understood easily. Local — if a relaxed room matters more to you, and the line-up is what you look at first. People who have tried both simply pick by mood on the night. There is no right answer, only preference. If you are not sure, ask us. Tell us the atmosphere and budget you have in mind and we will point you to the right side — including local venues with a Korean-speaking manager.
