That is the one thing that sets The Chamber apart. Not a few greetings — some of the staff majored in Korean or have worked as interpreters.

The worst part of a night out in Hanoi is not being understood. You order by pointing, and even with someone beside you there is nothing to say, so you drink in silence and leave. Not here.

Downstairs there is a long bar, tables and a small live stage, with live music every night. Good for one person or a group of two or three.

For something quieter, go upstairs to a room — you can sing there too. Starting at the bar and moving up to a room, all in one building, is not something many places offer.

The prices are easy.

Beer and cocktails at sensible prices. You will not spend the night doing sums in your head.

Fine alone, fine in a group.

Sitting alone at the ground-floor bar is not awkward here, because you can actually talk to the staff. Bring more people and you move upstairs.
