Hanoi Sit-down Restaurants: What You Actually Pay

What gets added on top of the food, and what two people actually pay.

So where should you go

We have visited and written up 3 Sit-down bar venues in Hanoi, and each one is different. Tell us how many people and what time, and we will check availability and work out the total in advance.

What is a sit-down restaurant?

It is a restaurant where a host sits with you while you eat. Think of it as halfway between a Korean restaurant and a karaoke room. You get a proper meal in a private room, with someone pouring and talking. Quieter than karaoke, less flat than a plain dinner — it is what people use for entertaining a client or catching up properly. The rooms have doors that close.

The bill has three parts

This is the part people get wrong. The menu price is not the whole bill. It comes in three separate pieces: 1. Food — per person, as printed on the menu. 2. Host time — charged by the hour. 3. Drinks — separate again; some places sell them as sets. People look at the food price, then get a surprise at the end. Add all three to get the real number.

How much is the host?

100,000 to 200,000 VND per hour. That is much less than a karaoke tip, because this is a meal, not a night out. Here are the three places we visit.

VenueAreaHost fee
MyeongwolMy Dinh100,000 / hour
K-DramaNam Trung Yen100,000 / hour
Sinsa 86My Dinh600,000 / 3 hours · +250,000

What do two people pay?

Food plus host time only, worked out from the actual price sheets. ⚠ Drinks and tax are not in these numbers. Drinks vary by venue and all three add tax on top, so the real bill lands higher. Tell us your group size, how long, and what you will drink — we work out the total before you go.

Cards work here

All three take cards — unlike VIP massage, where cards do not work at all. These are restaurants. Two things to know: tax is added on top of the menu price at all three, and paying by card can carry a fee — Sinsa 86 adds 8% on card, 10% on drinks. Cash is cheaper by that much.

Opening hours and booking

Myeongwol runs noon to 1am with no break; last orders 10:30pm. Sinsa 86 runs noon to midnight; lunch orders close at 3pm, dinner at 8pm. K-Drama runs 5pm to midnight. Sinsa 86 is booking-only. K-Drama's lobster and king crab sets need a day's notice. Give us the date and group size and we will check what is free.
